The Synod on Synodality was an “ironclad manipulation,” Cardinal Joseph Zen, 93, said in his three-minute intervention at the consistory held January 7–8. The text of his speech was published on the Substack account of Edward Pentin CardinalNews.Substack.com. Prior to the consistory, Cardinal Zen was received in private audience by Pope Leo XIV. Synod’s Invocation of the Holy Spirit Verges on Blasphemy In his intervention, Cardinal Zen criticized the late Pope Francis and the synodal process he initiated: “The ironclad manipulation of the process is an insult to the dignity of the Bishops, and the continual reference to the Holy Spirit is ridiculous and almost blasphemous.” Francis, he said, expected “surprises” from the Holy Spirit. Cardinal Zen responded: “What surprises? That He should repudiate what He inspired in the Church’s two-thousand-year Tradition?” Cardinal Zen noted that Francis bypassed the Episcopal College, listened directly to selected members of the laity, and …Okunengi
Saint Adrian of Canterbury | The Scholar Who Shaped the English Church (January 9) Saint Adrian of Canterbury, also known as Hadrian, is commemorated on January 9 as one of the most influential yet humble figures in the early English Church. Originally from North Africa, Adrian was a highly educated monk fluent in Scripture, theology, and classical learning. Despite his immense knowledge, he consistently chose humility over prominence. In the 7th century, Pope Saint Vitalian invited Adrian to become Archbishop of Canterbury. Aware of his limitations and seeking God’s will, Adrian declined and instead recommended Saint Theodore of Tarsus for the role. Adrian then accompanied Theodore to England and served as Abbot of the Monastery of Saints Peter and Paul in Canterbury, becoming a foundational teacher of the English Church. Under his guidance, the monastery became a centre of learning unmatched in Western Europe at the time. Adrian taught Scripture, theology, Greek, Latin, astronomy, …Okunengi

First Letter of John 5,14-21. Beloved: We have this confidence in him that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us in regard to whatever we ask, we know that what we have asked him for is ours. If anyone sees his brother sinning, if the sin is not deadly, he should pray to God and he will give him life. This is only for those whose sin is not deadly. There is such a thing as deadly sin, about which I do not say that you should pray. All wrongdoing is sin, but there is sin that is not deadly. We know that no one begotten by God sins; but the one begotten by God he protects, and the evil one cannot touch him. We know that we belong to God, and the whole world is under the power of the evil one. We also know that the Son of God has come and has given us discernment to know the one who is true. And we are in the one who is true, in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life. Children, be on your guard against idols. Psalms 149(…Okunengi
Minnesota Diocese Gives ‘Ad Orientem’ Worship a Shot: Unlike the Traditional Latin Mass, which refers to the form of the Roman Rite prior to the reforms of Vatican II, ad orientem is a posture that can be used in the celebration of the post-conciliar Mass.
Roman Rite Not Central Question for Cardinal Müller: “The Church has to discuss how to go on with these questions about the old and the new rite,” Cardinal Gerhard Ludwig Müller told EWTN on January 8: “I think Pope Leo XIV will find a good solution for everybody.” Cardinal Müller believes that this “is not the central question for the Church today.” He added: “We are living in times of secularization and atheism, in some great anti-Christian political systems, and we also face the Woke ideology and a false anthropology, which are absolutely in contradiction to the Christian understanding of human dignity.” Because time was limited at the consistory, he said, the cardinals preferred to speak about these major challenges facing the Church rather than about internal Church matters, he claimed.
Gerhard Müller confirmed to EWTN that the traditional Latin Mass was not discussed in the consistory this week. The cardinals “preferred to speak about the great (external) challenges of the Church and not so much aspects inside the Church”

Cardinal Leopoldo Brenes, 76, of Managua, Nicaragua, did not attend the consistory held in Rome on 7–8 January. He stated that he was not invited, claiming that he had checked his emails, WhatsApp messages and communications from the College of Cardinals. However, on 8 January, senior Church sources told LaPrensaNi.com that Cardinal Brenes had received an invitation to participate in the consistory but had refused to go for undisclosed reasons. The sources also indicated that there may be ongoing or attempted negotiations with the Nicaraguan government. The Church has faced sustained confrontation with the Ortega regime, resulting in persecution, restrictions on religious activity and the forced exile of several bishops. So..., not a 'computer guy'.... One does have to wonder, however, if he was as oblivious as this about checking his "social media" (in itself not necessarily a bad thing; some prelates - Prevost anyone? - are on it way too much!) before opening his mouth, is this really the kind of 'leadership' the Church requires at the moment ?!
The Light the Darkness Cannot Overcome The darkness covering the earth and the mist obscuring people’s vision are contrasted with the grace given to the Magi, allowing them to seek and worship the newborn King. This grace, a gift from God, enables individuals to recognize and desire truth, despite the prevalent darkness and rejection of goodness and righteousness in the world. The darkness of the world is increasing, but the light of God will always prevail. We must choose to be the light, even in the face of persecution, by relying on God’s grace and allowing His light to shine through us. This means living our faith with charity, mercy, and compassion, remembering that we were once in darkness ourselves. Fr. Altier’s Daily Homilies Fr.
