When Tucho Called Excommunications Terrible. From the Archives: In a homily delivered by Víctor "Tucho" Fernández, then Archbishop of La Plata, on 5 March 2023 at the Cathedral of La Plata, Argentina, he said: "You know that, for many centuries, the Church went in another direction. Without realizing it, it developed an entire philosophical and moral framework full of classifications—to categorize people, to label them. This one is like this, that one is like that. This one can receive Communion; that one cannot. This one can be forgiven; that one cannot. It is terrible that this happened to us in the Church. Thank God Pope Francis is helping us free ourselves from those rigid patterns of thinking."
"Este es así, este es asá, este puede comulgar, este no puede comulgar, a este se le puede perdonar, a este no, terrible que nos haya pasado eso en la Iglesia, gracias a Dios el papa Francisco nos ayuda a liberarnos de esos esquemas".

On June 13, Bishop Olivier Schmitthaeusler, Apostolic Vicar of Phnom Penh, accepted the title Akka Mahā Upāsaka Buddha Sāsanūpatthambhakr ("Elder Great Lay Supporter and Upholder of the Buddha's Dispensation") at the temple Wat Botum Vatey in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. The title was conferred by Supreme Patriarch Nun Nget of Cambodia's Mohanikaya Buddhist order. It recognized more than twenty years of cooperation with Buddhist institutions, educational work, and social projects. Bishop Schmitthaeusler stated at the ceremony: "When religions journey together, the world will witness true peace." Already in 2022, Bishop Schmitthaeusler had received the title "Maha Upasaka" ("Great Lay Benefactor") from Cambodia's Buddhist authorities. Several days after the June 2026 ceremony, Cambodia's King awarded Bishop Schmitthaeusler the Grand Cross of the Royal Order of Cambodia. Funding Buddhist Monastic Life Since 2023, Schmitthaeusler has supported a Buddhist primary school, "Chomroen Olivier," at the …Күберәк
WHO Director Tedros Attacks Bishop Schneider: WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus responded on X.com after an older video of Bishop Athanasius Schneider resurfaced online. In the video, Bishop Schneider describes mass immigration into Europe as an invasion aimed at islamising the continent and argues it threatens Europe's Christian heritage. Tedros said calling immigrants "invaders" dehumanises them and argued many are families fleeing war, hunger, and hardship. He added that migration should be managed with order and fairness but distinguished that from "demonising" immigrants.

03.07.2026 ARCHBISHOP VIGANO MUST APPEAL AGAINST ERRORS IN HIS SCHISM- TRIAL : VATICAN COUNCIL II RATIONAL IS NO MORE AN ISSUE FOR THE TRADITIONALISTS. Archbishop Carlo Maria Vigano has asked for a meeting with Pope Leo and has said that he is not in schism. The former Italian Nuncio could appeal against errors in his schism-trial. Doctrinally the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith (DDF) does not have a continuity with the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith (Holy Office) before 1949. The baptism of desire for example, referred to an invisible case over the centuries. It is common sense. So the baptism of desire was not an explicit exception for the dogma extra ecclesiam nulla salus (EENS) of the Council of Florence 1442, which did not mention any exceptions for EENS, in its text. But for Cardinal Victor Manuel Fernandez, Archbishop Joseph Kennedy and Pope Francis, Vatican Council II is a rupture with the dogma EENS. They imply that LG 14 (baptism of desire) is an explicit …Күберәк
On 2 July, the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith, led by Cardinal Víctor Fernández, issued a decree and an accompanying explanatory note on the Priestly Fraternity of Saint Pius X (FSSPX). InfoVaticana.com notes the two documents carry very different legal weight. The decree declares that the six bishops directly involved in the 1 July illicit episcopal consecrations have incurred latae sententiae excommunication. Canon law permits only a declaratory decree or judicial sentence to declare such penalties, limiting the decree's legal effect to those six bishops. The explanatory note goes further, stating that FSSPX priests are in schism, and that lay faithful who formally adhere to the schism incur excommunication. However, the note has no penal force because it is neither a law, a penal precept, nor a declaratory decree or judicial sentence, but simply a doctrinal explanation. Furthermore, latae sententiae excommunication requires an individual assessment of culpability and cannot …Күберәк
"As far as Martin himself is concerned, O good God, what have we overlooked or not done? What fatherly charity have we omitted that we might call him back from such errors? For after we had cited him, wishing to deal more kindly with him, we urged him through various conferences with our legate and through our personal letters to abandon these errors. We have even offered him safe conduct and the money necessary for the journey urging him to come without fear or any misgivings, which perfect charity should cast out, and to talk not secretly but openly and face to face after the example of our Savior and the Apostle Paul. If he had done this, we are certain he would have changed in heart, and he would have recognized his errors. He would not have found all these errors in the Roman Curia which he attacks so viciously, ascribing to it more than he should because of the empty rumors of wicked men. We would have shown him clearer than the light of day that the Roman pontiffs, our predecessors …Күберәк
On July 2, Leo XIV appointed a rather orthodox and Catholic priest to an important English see. Rev. Stephen Wang, 59, currently rector of the Venerable English College in Rome, was named Bishop of Arundel and Brighton. Rev. Wang is the founder of Sycamore, one of the most widely used Catholic evangelization programmes in the English-speaking world. He is believed to be the first English Catholic bishop with Chinese ancestry. His father is Chinese, with family roots in Guangdong Province in southern China. Wang himself was born in London and grew up in Harpenden, Hertfordshire. PhD on Happiness He was ordained a priest of the Archdiocese of Westminster in 1998 and has a PhD from Cambridge on human happiness. His later published book developed this research into Aquinas and Sartre: On Freedom, Personal Identity, and the Possibility of Happiness. 20K views · 1.2K reactions | Thank you to everyone who has already donated. I am genuinely staggered by how much we have already raised. I cannot express how grateful I am. This is a video that I have wanted to make for a while as it’s a fascinating piece of history connect to one of the most iconic streets in Britain. Thus, I thought it was appropriate to make it now as I’ll soon be doing my charity cycle ride to raise money for the church in which Henry Jermyn is buried and memorialised. However, the speculation about Jermyn’s fathering of Charles II is probably false, merely being rumour invented by the Parliamentarians. Nevertheless, I’m sure he was a bit of father figure for Charles ! Come rain or shine (and it’s looks like it will be rain) my friends and I will complete our cycle ride. Hopefully, in spite of the forecasted rain, we will bring you all along for the journey! Our charity cycle ride is part of the Suffolk Historic Churches Trust annual Ride and Stride fundraising event …Күберәк
The Catholic Church in the Central African Republic is mourning the loss of Father Crépin Martial Monga-Hadassi, 35, who was killed on June 29 while serving one of the country's most conflict-ridden regions. His funeral was celebrated on July 1 at Saint Peter Claver Cathedral in Bangassou. Just one day before his death, on June 28, Father Crépin baptized 175 people in one of his final pastoral acts. On the morning of June 29, he accompanied the newly baptized to the Mbomou River before returning to St. John the Baptist Parish in Zémio, where he served as vicar. Later that evening, at around 6:43 p.m., the priest was ambushed while returning to the parish rectory. The attack reportedly took place on the road between a Central African Armed Forces (FACA) checkpoint and the parish residence. He was fatally shot, while a female parishioner traveling with him was seriously wounded. The identity of the attackers remains unknown, and no group has claimed responsibility. Bishop Aurelio Gazzera …Күберәк
Why has the Vatican said so little about the persecution and murder of Christians in Africa? Why so much attention to the orchestrated “schism” with the SPPX? May Fr. Crepin through the mercy of God rest in peace.
The Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith published today the procedure for the “reconciliation” with the Vatican of former clergy of the Priestly Fraternity of Saint Pius X (FSSPX), together with a separate procedure for lay faithful. (Full Italian document below). The procedure, effective July 1, 2026, provides that a priest who has decided to leave the FSSPX must be willing to accept the Second Vatican Council and the “legitimacy of the Novus Ordo Missae,” while remaining attached to the usus antiquior (traditional Roman rite). The priest must: - Find an Ordinary (a diocesan bishop, a major superior of a clerical pontifical institute of consecrated life, a clerical pontifical society of apostolic life, etc.) who is willing to receive him ad experimentum. - Write, in his own hand, a letter to the Holy Father introducing himself and requesting the remission of the censures incurred either because he received priestly ordination from an excommunicated or otherwise canonically irregular …Күберәк
INFOVATICANA | July 2, 2026 The two documents published on 2 July by the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith—a Decree and an Explanatory Note (Prot. N. 99/2009), both signed by Cardinal Víctor Manuel Fernández and the secretaries Armando Matteo and John J. Kennedy—present defects of canonical technique that drastically limit their actual scope. Analyzed in accordance with Book VI of the Code of Canon Law, their juridical effect is reduced to the declaration of six excommunications. With respect to the more than seven hundred priests of the Priestly Fraternity of Saint Pius X and their faithful, the formula employed lacks penal efficacy. 1. Two instruments of distinct juridical nature On the one hand, the Decree declares “for all juridical purposes” that Bishop Alfonso de Galarreta and the four bishops consecrated on 1 July—Pascal Schreiber, Michael Goldade, Michel Poinsinet de Sivry and Marc Hanappier—have incurred ipso facto the excommunication latae sententiae reserved to the …Күберәк
Bishop Defends Football Screening in Church: Bishop Jean-Louis de Metz-Noblat of Verdun, France, defended in a July 1 video the decision to broadcast the France–Norway football match inside the church of Ligny-en-Barrois. "There were undoubtedly a few cheers, a song of celebration, and some applause, just as happens when a concert is held in a church or when an exhibition takes place in a church. Some people have said to me, 'But a church is a place for prayer.' I dare to hope that, because they were in the church, a number of people were able to pray for the success of their favorite team. I also dare to hope that, by entering a church, some of them discovered a place where perhaps they had never set foot before."
"Rien d'injurieux" : Après la diffusion de France-Norvège dans l’église de Ligny-en-Barrois, l'évéque de Verdun persiste et signe - Dans une vidéo de plus de trois minutes , Monseigneur de Metz-Noblat assume pleinement cette décision et entreprend d'en démontrer le bien-fondé, allant jusqu'à manier une certaine ironie à l'égard des fidèles scandalisés
I can only imagine the "best" view was provided by projecting these images onto the stage -- I mean: sanctuary. "when a concert is held in a church or when an exhibition takes place in a church." Your Excellency, I think that we have found the problem.

The Vatican's Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith on July 2 issued a decree excommunicating the six bishops of the Priestly Fraternity of Saint Pius X (FSSPX). The decree also warns clergy and faithful not to adhere to the Fraternity's schism, stating that doing so incurs automatic excommunication. An accompanying explanatory note says that all attempts since Pope Paul VI to reconcile the movement founded by Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre with the Catholic Church have failed. The recent episcopal consecrations against the will of Pope Leo XIV, it says, "constituted the offense of schism, with the resulting canonical consequences for the sacred ministers and lay faithful involved." "The sacred ministers belonging to the Priestly Fraternity of Saint Pius X are in schism and must therefore be considered schismatics." Lay faithful who formally adhere to the Fraternity are likewise to be considered schismatics and excommunicated. The FSSPX clergy administer "the sacraments illicitly": "The …Күберәк

Consummatum Est: A Crisis of Unity in the Catholic Church The Priestly Society of Saint Pius X (SSPX) has just consecrated four new bishops in Écône, Switzerland, on July 1. They did so despite Pope Leo XIV’s last-minute warning that proceeding without a papal mandate could have serious consequences, including schism. So now the ball is in Rome’s court, and many of us are waiting to see what the Vatican’s official response will be and whether it will formally declare that the SSPX has entered into schism. Naturally, Catholics everywhere are asking the same questions. What does the Church actually teach about this? What does the Code of Canon Law say? On paper, the law is pretty straightforward. Consecrating a bishop without the Pope’s approval is considered a schismatic act and carries a latae sententiae excommunication. That’s the legal side of the discussion. But the SSPX has never denied what the law says. Their argument has always been that extraordinary circumstances create a grave …Күберәк
It is a sad tale on both parts of the divide, Tom. Inasmuch as I fully concur with Fr. Murray's remarks in The Catholic Thing, there can be no denying that there has been an willful (arrogant?) clumsiness on both sides not to admit the errors being committed from each side. From where I stand, there is much to commend in the SSPX's problems with the leadership from the Vatican, and, seemingly, dialogue and concessions are being made by the Vatican to factions who are already at odds with the fundamentals of Church teaching while the SSPX, which stands with the bulk of that Orthodoxy, is treated as an unworthy member of the family. Certain positions, elevations, statements, even waffling, by the hierarchy under Pope Francis, and, now, Pope Leo, have appeared to be, at the very least, confusing and, perhaps, even heretical for many of the faithful. We, the laiety, as Archbishop Sheen pointed out, will ultimately save the Church, and, as you mention, the Church, and the Pope, need our …Күберәк
