Choose Christ Over Your Own Gospel The gospel reading highlights the tendency of people to reject messages that require change, exemplified by the responses to St. John the Baptist and Jesus. Many find excuses to ignore the call to repentance and salvation, preferring a self-serving interpretation of faith. The true gospel, however, demands a commitment to change and a pursuit of holiness, as exemplified by the lives of St. John the Baptist and Jesus. Fr. Jim Ferguson @JimFergusonUK “YOU CANNOT UNDERSTAND WHAT MADE THE WEST GREAT WITHOUT UNDERSTANDING THAT THE BIBLE WAS FOUNDATIONAL.” Alex Newman believes the political and cultural crisis facing the West cannot be separated from something much deeper: The abandonment of its Christian foundations. In our conversation, Alex argues that the principles contained in the Bible helped underpin the freedom, prosperity and security that developed across Western societies. And he says political slogans alone won't reverse the decline. His message is ultimately about faith, family and what we teach the next generation. With geopolitical tensions rising, financial uncertainty growing and institutions under increasing strain, Newman argues that people need something stronger than politics upon which to build their lives. His foundation? Christ. Whether you agree with him or not, this is a very different perspective on the question: What made the West successful — and what happens when it abandons the …More
An anonymous seminarian writing from Lima, Peru, paints a picture of Catholic life that is worse than Germany: seminaries and convents “dramatically empty,” kneelers removed from churches, Communion distributed in the hands, children’s Masses with puppets and dolls, and national Catholic youth gatherings with secular music. He describes priests becoming “community entertainers” and homilies reduced to superficial, lukewarm messages. He criticizes liturgies centered on creativity, community and local culture rather than the sacrifice and adoration. In his account, doctrine is no longer treated as fixed, but as continually open to reinterpretation.
A man was on a vacation overseas, traveling through a region famous for its breathtaking historic castles. He bought a local guidebook and started mapping out his itinerary. The visiting hours for most of the estates were pretty strict, but one page caught his eye. It was an exclusive listing titled "The Tour of a Lifetime," featuring a photo of an absolutely stunning castle. He immediately knew he had to go. The listing had a strange catch: there was no upfront ticket cost, but you had to book a specific time slot in advance. Intrigued, the guy called the number and locked in a reservation for the very next day. When he arrived, he was greeted by a polite caretaker at the front door. "Are the other people in my tour group already inside?" the tourist asked. "No group," the caretaker replied. "This is a solo experience, and there is no guide." He gave the man a quick rundown of the castle's history and told him what to look out for—the grand dining halls, the medieval armor on the second …More
Leo XIV has appointed the much-criticized Monsignor Michele Di Tolve as the new Bishop of Chioggia (50 priests, 100'000 Catholics) Italy (September 16). Until now, he was auxiliary bishop of Rome and rector of the Pontifical Roman Major Seminary. Born in Milan in 1963 and ordained a priest in 1989, Di Tolve spent much of his ministry in priestly formation. Seminarian numbers fell sharply during his rectorship in Milan. “He Destroyed the Seminary” In 2023, a priest of the Milan Archdiocesan Curia told SilereNonPossum.com that Di Tolve “destroyed this seminary.” This article portrays Di Tolve as an extremely controlling and short-tempered rector. He had video surveillance cameras installed throughout the seminary, reportedly to monitor seminarians’ movements, including where they went and with whom. In preparation for diaconal and priestly ordination, Di Tolve had seminarians sign a document declaring that they were not homosexual, to absolve himself of responsibility. At the same time, …More

Worse than Germany: On 13 September, Rev Olivier de Pétiville held a Novus Ordo spectacle at the Sainte-Blandine church in Lyon, France. He has been in this parish since 1 September. The Eucharist featured contemporary praise music, singers and musicians, large screens, a headset microphone, and congregants raising their hands. Only karaoke was missing.
