The encyclical Magnifica Humanitas is internally inconsistent in its treatment of just war theory. That writes Manfred Spieker, emeritus professor of Christian Social Sciences, on Herder.de on June 16. While he generally praises Leo XIV’s reflections on artificial intelligence, he challenges the encyclical’s call to “overcome” the traditional doctrine of just war. Magnifica Humanitas, drawing on Fratelli Tutti, offers two reasons for moving beyond just war theory: first, that nearly every war in recent decades has been presented as justified, and second, that modern weapons make war an unacceptable solution. Spieker finds neither argument convincing. Regarding the first, he writes: “If everyone who wages a war appeals to this doctrine, it remains necessary to examine who is justified in doing so and who is not.” He adds: “Those who falsely invoke this doctrine will face criticism or rejection. But that does not make the doctrine of just war obsolete.” Nor do modern weapons invalidate …зиёдтар
Worse than Germany: Argentine Priest Celebrates World Cup at Eucharist: On June 15, parish priest Carlos Costale of Río Cuarto, Argentina, posted a video showing World Cup fan props used during an Eucharist celebration. One of the props was a paper bus labeled “La Scaloneta,” the popular nickname for Argentina’s national football team under Lionel Scaloni. The parish priest is already known for his theatrical liturgical experiments, including mixing a fruit salad during a Pentecost Eucharist.
Why This Matters to Faithful Catholics Compromised elections with hidden voter surveillance through electronic poll books, ballot devices, and traceable codes threaten the rule of law. They enable fraud that leads to unjust laws on life, family, education, and religious liberty, harming the Church and the common good. Catholics must demand paper ballots and real audits.
Rorate-Caeli.blogspot.com published on June 16 a report about a recent pilgrimage in Italy with a priest of the Priestly Fraternity of Saint Peter (FSSP). - This group was denied the celebration of Mass at the Shrine of San Giovanni Rotondo (Padre Pio) and instead celebrated Mass in a hotel basement. - At the Basilica in Assisi, they were also denied permission to celebrate Mass in Latin, and they noted that an Orthodox Divine Liturgy was taking place at the same time. - At Loreto, the group was initially denied permission to celebrate Mass, but the priest was finally able to convince the local authorities. However, in Loreto, there was a station for 'Dialogue and Listening' (pictured). Rather than a priest, a nun was 'listening' without a veil and wearing some kind of Roman collar. #newsWfzjowokcn
ScoopWhoop A report by Reform UK MP Rupert Lowe estimates up to 250,000 girls may have been targeted by organised grooming gangs across England over several decades. Offenders in several high-profile cases were predominantly Pakistani Muslim men. The abuse, documented in towns like Rotherham, Rochdale, and Telford, involved vulnerable girls aged 10 to 19 being groomed with gifts, alcohol, and false affection before being subjected to rape, trafficking, and violence. Baroness Casey's 2025 audit confirmed serious institutional failure, finding authorities repeatedly failed victims while some officials suppressed ethnicity data out of fear of being accused of racism. PM Keir Starmer has since announced a full national statutory inquiry, with the NCA reviewing over 1,200 previously closed cases. facebook.com/photo/?fbid=1511211537706087&set=a.6…

An investigation had found that she had required female students to take part in classroom skits involving same-sex kissing. She also repeatedly shared personal details about her private life, including discussions of suicide and childhood abuse. An independent review concluded that her conduct demonstrated poor judgement, caused students discomfort, and offered little educational value. The board dismissed her for incompetence and neglect of duty.

Leo XIV Against Remigration of Migrants: Asked about “remigration” of immigrants, Pope Leo XIV replied on Tuesday in Castel Gandolfo: “Simply saying, ‘We send them away, and then the problem is off our hands,’ does not seem to me to be the most Christian response.” He said migrants should be respected as persons, their reasons for leaving considered, and their cases examined individually.
Sulla questione remigrazione, esorta a trattare “con rispetto ogni persona”: “Dire mandiamo via, così ci laviamo le mani, non mi sembra una risposta cristiana”.

Cardinal Camillo Ruini, an influential churchmen in Italy, died in Rome on the evening of June 16 at age 95. He had been hospitalized last September with kidney problems and, after an initial recovery, saw his condition worsen in recent weeks. He chose to remain at home under medical care. Born in Sassuolo, in the province of Modena, Ruini was ordained a priest in 1954. He became auxiliary bishop of Reggio Emilia-Guastalla in 1983 and secretary-general of the Italian Bishops' Conference (CEI) in 1986. In 1991, Pope St. John Paul II appointed him to lead the Italian Bishops' Conference, named him Vicar General of Rome, and created him a cardinal. He held the Rome vicariate until 2008 and led the bishops’ conference until 2007. He became, for nearly two decades, one of the closest collaborators of both John Paul II and later Benedict XVI. His tenure as bishops’ president coincided with the collapse of the Democrazia Cristiana, the Christian Democratic party that had been the Church's …зиёдтар

Marksmen will target the animals, known as brumbies, in a major cull across Kosciuszko National Park in New South Wales, where officials say soaring numbers are causing extensive environmental damage. The operation is expected to begin as early as this week and forms part of a government plan to slash the wild horse population from an estimated 6,000 to 16,000 animals to just 3,000 by the middle of next year. The move has sparked outrage among campaigners, who have branded the aerial shooting programme 'completely barbaric' and launched petitions calling for it to be halted. Brumbies have roamed the rugged alpine landscape of Kosciuszko National Park for more than 200 years. Descended from horses lost or released by …
